synopsis.

/afk explores the relationship between online gamers and the games that they play. It encompasses the evolution of an MMORPG game from its infancy to its non-existent conclusion and beyond, into the world of obsession. It shows the joys associated with online games, and offers a objective look at some of its inherent trappings through the lives of several key characters. /afk seeks to create a dialogue about gamers in an attempt to bring understanding to the gaming phenomenon. In doing so, one might assert that gaming can no sooner be understood than that of any other form of addiction: if it's an addiction at all.

about the director.

Greg Stuetze began his entertainment career as the star of a local Lutheran talent show. After a particularly edgy performance, he was expelled from the show. To his wondrous delight, his fan base stood by his side; an entertainer was born.

Years later, Greg starred in IDLEHEIST which inspired him to explore his ideas from behind the camera. After graduating from the University of Arizona as a Media Arts student, he began to look for a project. '/afk' is that project, and marks Greg's debut as both writer and director of this feature-length documentary. Greg lives in Tucson, Arizona and enjoys spending his time playing video games and watering his plants.
